Jamieson Way Sports Hall & Pavilion

This project is Stage 2 of the redevelopment of the Jamieson Way Community Centre site. The new multi purpose sports hall with adjacent amenties and social room will accomodate a number of community sport groups including basketball, netball, volleyball and badminton.

The location of the new building was a challenge because it was required to be positioned between existing netball and tennis courts and the Community Centre, while retaining sufficient open space between the two buildings to accommodate an outdoor community space and playground. It also required extending the outdoor netball courts. We were mindful of the affect that the building would have on the adjacent open space areas and worked with Council to develop a landscape plan that provides safe well vegetated outdoor areas with multiple picnic/BBQ and playground hubs.

The building rakes back along its northern edge to reduce the impact of its height on the courtyard spaces between the community centre and the sports hall. High level windows set back from the northern and southern façades allow good natural light and ventilation, which was helpful in achieving Council’s sustainability requirements of 70% BESS.
