Albury House
Our client’s brief for this project was to enhance their 1920s red brick California bungalow with a thoughtfully designed single-storey extension. They requested an open-plan living space that seamlessly integrates the kitchen and lounge areas, offering a modern and spacious environment connecting to the garden at the rear.
The extension was carefully planned to accommodate a variety of functional spaces. These include a new master bedroom complete with an ensuite, a family bathroom, a dedicated sewing room, a rumpus room, and a practical laundry area.
A strong emphasis was placed on the use of authentic, natural materials throughout the extension. The design features large, open internal spaces and strategically positioned windows, which flood the interiors with natural light and create a bright, welcoming atmosphere.
The new structure showcases laminated timber beams crafted from Australian native hardwoods, lending both strength and beauty to the space. The kitchen stands out with a curved, tiled pantry wall and Italian granite benchtops, introducing texture and collour to this central hub of the home.
In addition to the main extension, a large garage and workshop were designed, featuring a mezzanine level for added utility. The use of the same external material palette as the main house ensures these structures complement the overall aesthetic and maintain architectural harmony across the property.
