Taylors Lakes House
This project was to refurbish a classic surburban 1980’s red brick home where the existing layout did not suit the needs of a young family of five
Our clients requested an affordable solution to increase space and storage within the current building footprint. Our focus was to create open plan kitchen and living areas, and a new family room at the back of the building, creating a better connection with the garden along with an additonal outdoor entertaining space. The master bedroom now sits at the front of the house with a new ensuite, and the existing bedrooms and bathrooms were refurbished as part of the renovation.
A key feature of this classic 80’s home are the high timber lined vaulted ceilings which our clients were keen to retain. In the open plan living area they have been painted white to enhance the feeling of space , with the addition of high level skylights to flood the once dark living area with natural light. In a nod back to the original look and feel of the home, the original timber finish of the vaulted ceiling has been retained in the master bedroom. The new rear living space incorporates an expressed timber ceiling and beams which flows into the undercover entertaining area.
The front of original house has been given a facelift with charred timber elements and a new master bedroom window, designed on an angle to provide privacy from the street.
