Melville Oval Pavilion & Grandstand
This project is part of the development of the recreational precinct in Hamilton to revitalise council’s sporting facilities and public spaces in order to attract more community use.
It includes the redevelopment and extension of an existing heritage listed grandstand and a new recreation & multipurpose community pavilion.
The existing grandstand and oval are identified as being of historic significance within the Victorian Heritage Register. The grandstand was constructed in 1905 and has local significance and historical associations with various sports and recreation activities. We worked with the Council heritage architect to ensure the new pavilion was sympathetic in its design, material and colour selection to the old grandstand.
The pavilion accommodates a large function room, kitchen, kiosk, change-rooms, public toilets, office and storage spaces.
New sports facilities include two netball courts with sheltered spectator viewing and competition lighting, and new player and umpire facilities within the pavilion.
